A First for Everything

Hey All,

This is my first blog and first time posting in one ever. There have been many firsts for me lately, this was also my first full week of class for winter semester at the Mount. It has been going well so far however I have already encountered a few challenges such as doing my first speech in my Business Communication Management. It did not go as smoothly as planned, my professor asked my class to do a 4 to 5 minute presentation about the question “Who am I?”. I wrote out my entire speech and felt somewhat confident going into the room until I saw the bright lights and cameras. It was very distracting and nerve wracking to see myself on the television but that wasn’t even the worst of it. The first few speakers did an excellent job at presenting who they were and telling their stories, but I noticed no one was using their notes or paper. I made the error of trying to follow the trend as I thought I could handle it, after all I know who I am so it should have been easy to tell my peers my story. However that was not the case I got a bad case of stage freight and forgot who I was…literally I didn’t even say my name yet on my paper it was the first line stating “Hi, my name is Adrienne Michelle-Johnston Henley. When my teacher asked me for my name at the end of my presentation I knew that was not a good impression. I also kept repeating myself, talking very quickly and gasping for air.

Overall it was a rough experience but showed me that I made the right choice taking the course because obviously I need practice. I look forward to the challenge and hopefully my next speech will go a lot better.

I’ll be posting here a fair bit but until next time enjoy your weekJ
