Hopefully you’re all doing alright after Fridays snow storm, I am very thankful I did not have class that day or have to go anywhere. However was disappointed because it was suppose to be my date night. I had been looking forward to going out for sushi with my boyfriend for months and finally we plan to go when we both have the time but Mother Nature decides other wise.
We have only not gone out for a sushi dinner one time on our first date when we drove to the valley and ate at Le Caveau. It’s a small little restaurant better known for its wine, it is actually named “one of 20 worlds best winery restaurants” (wine access magazine). It was the best date I have ever been on, the food was so rich and delicious as well as their wine. It was slightly sprinkling outside so we had to share an umbrella, it all just brought us close very fast. Plus we had to drive 45 minutes to get there so it gave us the necessary amount of time to get to know each other better. We ended up having a great time and really enjoyed ourselves, since then we have been inseparable.
Although I did order the seared yellow fin tuna our second date sparked our love for sushi, not that we didn’t both love it before but with the right company the experience is even greater. For our second date we went to Kagami Sushi that was located in Clayton Park, we got a private booth just for two people in a small room shielded by curtains, it was a relaxing environment. We were both sceptical at first since it was a buffet style and when sushi is involved buffet usually isn’t an option. Either the sushi is not going to be as fresh or of the same quality, or the restaurant will loose money because they are selling decent sushi for however much a person can eat. It was amazing which is probably why they went out of business, we went there every week for about a month then took a break for a few weeks and when we returned they were closed down. It’s a shame, the waitress was saying they were getting a new chef from Japan which would have increased the quality and authenticity of their food but I guess he just couldn’t come soon enough.
We found out by actually driving to the restaurant on our date night and sadly finding it shut and dark, so we searched what other sushi places were around. As a result we ate at Sushi Nami, and once again had a fantastic time. It was quiet but in a peaceful sense and although there were no private rooms we got a corner booth style table so it was just as romantic with stringed lights that were dimmed. The sushi was the best I had ever had and the presentation of it was beautiful. The server brought out this enormous sushi boat that was filled with temaki, nigiri and sashimi, all of it looking so good. We also enjoyed soup and salad as well as green tea ice cream for desert. By the end of the night I could not even take another sip of water I was so full, but that just means my dinner was excellent.
So if you’re a sushi lover I highly recommend trying out a few places before settling on just one because you might be surprised at what you’ll find.
